College: An emotional roller coaster.

College can be an emotional roller coaster. I found that out during the first few weeks at the Georgia Institute of Technology. After orientation, which was a lot of fun, I was looking forward to starting classes! August 17th is when it all began. After being free for 4 whole months, I was bombarded with essays, projects and homework! The feeling was very awkward. When you go into a situation expecting something, and getting something entirely different, you feel like you have run into a stone wall.
After the first few days of classes, I was quite happy. The professors were good, the homework was quite easy (thankfully) and the students at Tech are amazing individuals. I can happily say that I had a good first week of college.
When the weekend arrived, I got to go for my first college party! It was quite different from what I had expected. Georgia Tech is not a party school. That is the conclusion I came to after my first weekend, and I am very happy with the results. When I say that Tech is not a "party" school, I do not mean that this college does not know how to enjoy (they sure do have tons of fun!), I mean that there is a good balance between academics and social events. Hence, after my first weekend, I was a little confused as to where I was, but at the same time I was happy that I had found the perfect school for me.
The second week started off with a bang! I got a lot of homework, and unlike the first week, it was not easy at all. I had to stay up late on Tuesday night to complete my homework, and as a result, I over slept and missed my early morning chemistry lecture. I was very disappointed in myself for not managing my time well. My confusion from the weekend now turned into disappointment. My parents had to go back to India on thursday. Saying goodbye is never easy. Someone wise once said," You have to be strong for the ones you love", hence, tears were not an option, only smiles were. After a happy goodbye, all I felt was sadness. But that sadness only lasted for a few moments, and soon turned into realization. Realization that this was a new begining, college was a new begining, and that every man is his own master.
